Whether your grabbing a bite downtown, hiking through the mountains, or heading into a fire fight one of the most important pieces of gear is what’s on your feet. Your feet quite literally carry you into and out of any scenario you may find yourself in. Chances are if anything bad happens to you either have to flea on foot or fight your way out. And if your like me it’s likely that you will have to carry someone else out of the situation, be it a smaller/weaker family member or some else who is hurt. It’s pretty common sense that you need the right footwear to carry someone out of danger or travel a considerable distance on your feet. And what about a physical confrontation? Getting in fist fight in flip-flops sucks and increases the chances you may lose the fight, get beat up or even killed. Plus even if you win the fight wearing flip flops it’s a good chance you skinned your feet up in the process and reduced your mobility post fight.
Traction, Stability, and Flexibility: Additional stability is crucial for tasks such as carrying heavy loads, walking over rough terrain, and general balance. Adequate flexibility ensures you can still move in a dynamic fashion and maintain agility for things like shooting and moving, moving through obstacles, and fighting. Having footwear that adequately grips most terrain is critical. Ever tried playing football in running shoes against some one wearing cleats? Being able to have adequate traction is essential for being able to achieve your athletic potential. Slips, trips, and falls account for a large percentage of hospital visits, blown plays, and fight conclusions.
Protection From the Elements: Be it moisture, cold, hot, or impacts proper footwear protects and enhances our mobility. Enhanced mobility equals enhanced overall capability and survive-ability. Protecting your feet from the elements prevents injury and increases endurance and mental focus on the given task at hand.
I admit it, I’ve given some justification of why I think what’s on your feet is very import but I’m a tactical footwear and sock junkie. So as I continue to expand the blog I’ll be doing a bunch of footwear and sock reviews so stay tuned. Till then take care of your feet and they will take care of you.
